Getting to Know Your 1%: Aylwin Lewis

Image
We've all heard of the Kochs and the Murdochs, the Buffetts and the Jobses, the Aileses and Gateses...but do we really KNOW our 1%?  In this recurring series, I'll be taking a look at some of the no-names in the corporate community and their connections and power within the community. Aylwin Lewis Aylwin Lewis sits on the Boards of Directors of both Halliburton and the Walt Disney Corporation (making sure all those magical movies and cartoons are promoting the military-industrial complex like they should--in addition to all the programming on the ABC/ESPN and A&E families of networks) and is formerly the interim Chief Executive Officer and President of   Sears Holdings Corporation   and currently the CEO of   Potbelly Sandwich Works . Sears Holdings was created in connection with the merger of Kmart and Sears, which was completed on March 24, 2005. Lewis joined Kmart as President and Chief Executive Officer on October...

VIDEO GOLD

Image
VIDEO GOLD This is a new segment I've decided to spawn, to share those rare bits of internet filmilc gold that flash across my screen.   Donald Duck/Lars Von Trier Parody Trailer Everyone once in a while an exceptional trailer comes across youtube that must be shown to as many eyes as possible. This is one such trailer. Combining the style and power of Lars Von Trier with the well known Donald Duck disney adventures is a fantastical endeavor. Who knew gritty drug use and Donald Duck went together so well? This trailer is not for the little ones, but it is for everyone else with an intact funny bone. Avengers Sweded Trailers I saw the Avengers before you! Yes I know. I am awesome. These sweders are also awesome for their expertly made sweded Avengers Trailers. That's right trailers as in two versions. Get hyped for Avengers it's worth it. I wanna swede movies to now.

The Avengers :Yeah you're gonna want to see it.

THE AVENGERS PREVIEW- REVIEW IN STEREO  STEPHEN = RED DANIELLE= Before the terrifying Disney legal monsters come and take down this post I will commit to NO SPOILERS, though by now a few thousand people have seen the movie so I mean "eh". I saw Avengers this weekend with fellow blogger Stephen Escudero. I know I'm cool. We were very lucky to have a last minute connect. So we woke up at 7am and we were on our way to the movies. For a possible 10am viewing, it was however first come first serve and we could've been turned away. The wait was pretty smooth, the anticipation was the worst thing. The security for the event was no joke, they were protecting the movie at every turn from dastardly pirates. We got pretty good seats center and to the right. The people running the preview event really wanted people to see the movie, they packed people everywhere they could spare with out getting them in the aisles(you know in ...

MOVIE REVIEW: JOHN CARTER SAVED MARS AND EARTH DOESN'T GIVE TWO SHITS, APPARENTLY

Image
A MOVIE REVIEW WRITTEN IN STEREO DANIELLE EDGHILL =BLUE                   STEPHEN ESCUDERO =YELLOW                        I feel I must run to John Carter's defense as this film sees to be dying by indifference, at least in America. Two out of three of us here in the Vundablog sphere went to see Disney's John Carter.I know (sigh) I know, we're rolling in to save the big 250 million dollar movie by Disney one of the most prolific and biggest companies on this planet. Apparently we are of the few, who not only liked it, but dare I say loved it. In fact according to rotten tomatoes the average movie goer that saw it basically liked it , with a 69 percent audience approval rating. However, the critics scor...

The Art of the Mix Tape 2.0

Image
Several years ago, a friend of mine named Matt Preira wrote a piece for the Underfoot webzine called "The Art of the Mix Tape." It was one of my favorite things I've ever read and inspired me to pick up a hobby I've been enjoying for roughly a decade now.  Mix tapes or mix CDs are always a fun little gift for someone special or even for yourself.  But they can't just be thrown together willy nilly in a random order of randomly chosen songs.  Great care and time should be taken both in choosing as well as re-ordering the songs and making them into a tape or disc.  Also, with the advent of digital music and portable devices to play it on, the concept of mixes has evolved into the concept of playlists.  But whether you're dealing with analog or digital music, there have to be some rules--or guidelines, if you will--that should be followed to get the best results out of your mixes.

Derrick's Ultimate Valentine's Day Playlist

Image
Valentine's Day Playlist   Listen to my entire playlist in it's full and glorius form vis-a-vis my spotify Valentine's Day Playlist  and subcribe to me for future Vundablog playlists Derrick Mustelier aka bioponic . Current Lover (joyful): - Across the Universe Soundtrack - All My Loving The intro of this song in the movie is a ridiculously adorable scene--I love the way the girl says “Pull the other one” when Jude sings “and remember I’ll always be true.”  His Limey accent really shines through in this song too, I love it. - The Beach Boys - God Only Knows This might just be the ultimate song for a significant other.  There is no better musical description of that all-consuming storybook love that every girl (and many guys, even if they don’t want to admit it) dreams about. - Bright Eyes - First Day of My Life This might just be the cutest song ever written.  We’ve all met someone who makes us feel brand new.  This song articulates...

Derrick's Top 11 Albums of 2011

Image
I hadn't really planned on doing one of these but when Danielle did hers, I felt challenged.  My reputation as the World Heavyweight Champion of lists was on the line.  How could I back down?  I also felt like there needed to be a little balance between the representation of the mainstream and the underground.  I used to make one of these lists every year  but after that one I got a little bit lazy.  But thanks to Vundablog I'm back on track this year!  Let's get right to it, shall we? 11. Beastie Boys - Hot Sauce Committee Part 2 It's been a while but these guys still got it.  Some of the best beats they've ever produced and I love the way their voices and lyrics have evolved.   10. Adele - 21 Unlike Danielle, I think this album is phenomenal front to back.  The first five tracks are especially unstoppable as well as a sweet cover of The Cure's "Lovesong" and the beautiful single "Someone Like You."  This woman's voice g...

An Exceedingly In-Depth Analysis of the First 11 Minutes of the January 19th South Carolina Republican Presidential Debate

Image
written by -The first montage is a CNN montage of all the momentous occasions of CNN reporters announcing winners of presidential elections.  They sure know how to declare winners of stuff at CNN.  Except that whole thing in 2000.  Perhaps predictably, the clip in the montage they played to represent their work in the 2000 election shows a report saying “Too close to call in Florida.”  Well, what do you expect?  They’re not very well going to play the clip of them declaring Al Gore the winner now are they?

Let's discuss those nominations, you know those things, the Oscars? Yeah, those.

So...I had nothing to write about or I did but it 's much too time consuming right now seeing as how I have about a MILLION things to do today, However the nominations just came out and so I am going to put in my two cents, in red of course. Without further ado.

Burning Bush

Image
written by It seems somedays like this nation and this country has nothing but financial and social trouble, sometimes so much so  that it seems totally insurmountable. On days like this I need to laugh and I want you to laugh. So please submit you're favorite George W. Bush moments for a new running segment I dub          BURNING BUSH! This clip I found on a fluke and I think it speaks for itself. It's only 8 seconds long which is technically the speed of light if you use comic book logic. So in the speed of light George W. Bush unfurled this quoterrificness.
