ASS KICKING KICKSTARTERS: MENTHU

Image
Been a while since I publicly plugged a kickstarter on the Vundablog . So here's a return to a recurring segment I call Ass Kicking Kickstarters. This Menthu comic looks very promising. The amount of detail and time put into the Kickstarter page give me a lot of hope for this comic series. Send them as much support as you can share their Kickstarter they have less than a week to go and a lot of catching up to do. The talent involved looks top notch and it's cool to see a cool new hero of color. Help Robert Roach achieve his dream. Here's a graphic I made to help promote the campaign, so you can share it and post it on your social media outlet of choice.

COMIC BOOK REVIEW: RAVENOUS

Image
So I'm all hyped for the upcoming Florida Super Con and I've decided to review some of the books I picked up last year. Local comic book publisher Creature Entertainment has put out Ravenous . Ravenous isn't just a werewolf comic. It is a badass werewolf comic. The main character is chasing or being chased by something mysterious, turns out it's were-wolves. There's a vicious fight with a werewolf that runs from page 3 to page 8, that is intense and cool as our hero uses only a knife to repel the supernatural beast. Intrigue rises when the people of a road stop are caught in the midst of this werewolf attack. The comic has the feel of one of my favorite movies From Dusk Till Dawn. The art by Jose Varese works perfectly with the tone of the book. The art is the very essence of cool in the book as everyone looks good even the angry monstrous werewolves. The story by John Ulloa is pure simple fun. This comic lets you really appreciate the savagery and power of w...

COMICBOOK REVIEW: Kidnapping Kevin Smith by Chad Blakely

Image
On Free Comicbook Day I made some purchases. One of them was Kidnapping Kevin Smith by Chad Blakely. I had read about this comic online once before because of the fabulous Mike Allred cover. So when I saw this book in a box marked half off, I was stoked. Firstly the cover by Mike Allred is simple, dramatic, and engaging. I like that the lettering of the title is reminiscent of a ransom note and of the Clerks poster font (Kevin Smith's indy classic). The story opens with Kevin closing out a sold out Q&A. A couple of the attendees head over to a cafe to order some coffees and debate the quality of Kevin Smith's show. It turns into an argument over Kevin Smith's merit. Ralph goes on a rant about how Kevin Smith is a hack to which his friend Jeff defends Kevin Smith for the rest of the night. The friends continue on with their mundane lives. Both of them working at a comic shop and going to movies together. Until they watch a movie about kidnapping. That...

Free Comicbook Day Special: Frozen and Captain America: The Winter Soldier Comparison/Review

Image
Free Comic Book Day is upon us. Spider Man 2 is out. Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier is out. The summer movie season has begun. Life is good here at Vundablog. Despite the tardiness of this post we actually saw Captain America: The Winter Soldier 2 days early and for free by showing our shield's to the fine folks at Mac's Comics . Where we met a fellow fan named Tony who had this awesome original poster. Today on this glorious free comic book day. We will be getting our free comic book day comics at Macs Comics. We also may stop by one of our local libraries and pick up free comics that were donated by the generous Mac's comics. Below in the player you can hear our review/comparison of Disney's animated hit Frozen and Marvel's box-office smash Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier . We are working on an Amazing Spiderman 2 review, and then review/comparison. So stay tuned to Vundablog. Catch up on our podcasts and let us know what you think. W...

Image
Hey Vunda-fans! This will make it's goal. I will be drawn into this comic.   We will push this hard. Oh no everyone can see my Selena Gomez song. How very unwrestling. But I love Headlocked like a love song baby. Support or get out of the ring.

COMICBOOK REVIEW: Wolverine and the X-men #17

Image
One man's art is responsible for me getting into comics. That man is Mike Allred . Mike Allred is an amazing artist. I've tried to share his art with others before but they couldn't quite understand the magic of Allred's art. Allred draws the comics and his wife Laura adds the color which is such a vital element to his style. It is timeless he makes every character seem like their most classical interpretation. I can't get enough of seeing him draw my favorite characters. I was in a used bookstore and the year was 2003 or 2004 maybe even 2005 it's hard to say. This used bookstore had some old comics on the wall. Three of those comics were X-statix #1, 2, and 3 written by Pete Milligan and drawn by the master Mike Allred. This comic sung to me from the rack. I was always a big fan of the X-men and religiously followed the 90's X-men the Animated series . In Elementary and Middle School I collected cards based on DC and Marvel comics. My favorite cards...

COMICBOOK REVIEW: Justice League of America Issues 1 & 2 and also Justice League #18

Image
In Justice League of America #1 Geoff Johns and David Finch take us through the introduction of the American wing of the Justice League. The driving force of this first arc seems to be the machinations of a Secret Society of super-villains. The issue is basically centered around Steve Trevor (Wonder Woman's one time love interest) working under Amanda Waller (who I'm disappointed to see in her new 52 incarnation is now a thin woman). Waller wants the JLA to form as a balance of power in case the actual Justice League gets too powerful and tries to conquer the world or something. The issue has the choosing and breakdown of the team. Trevor and Waller design a team to match up with every members power set.

COMICBOOK REVIEW: VIBE #1 and 2

Image
I enjoyed the heck out of Vibe #1. To be honest, I'm a huge Geoff Johns fan, and have recently realized I'm apparently also a fan of Andrew Kreisberg . I enjoyed Andrew's work on Green Arrow/ Black Canary where he introduced a pretty cool villainess named Cupid . Here Kreisberg and Geoff are trying to reinvigorate the most wacky character of the Justice League Detroit crew of the 70's (for more info on that check out comics 101 here ). I also have dug his work on Mission Hill, Eli Stone, The Simpsons, and Justice League to name a few. The writers embrace the wacky world of Vibe and set the book in modern day Detroit. The book ties in with the first storyline of the new 52's Justice League when they stopped an incursion by Darkseid into their world. Vibe was born from this event. Being caught in the blast of a boom tube granted him with special gifts and abilities which make him uniquely suited to finding and stopping Darkseid's threats. This book was so g...

COMICBOOK REVIEW BATMAN FALSE FACES

Image
BATMAN FALSE FACES is a collection of  DC comics stories all written by Brian K Vaughan . Brian K Vaughan is famous for working on three seasons of one of my all time favorite shows,  Lost and also more importantly for writing on one of my favorite comic book series of all time Y THE LAST MAN .  Brian K Vaughan introduces Batman False Faces himself and sets up the context of the book and the many stories it pulls from. All the stories are gloriously self contained so they don't really need to fit into any certain continuity. I assume Vaughan does this so that they are, as Batman should be, easily accessible to all audiences. There are four stories in the collection of varying lengths. Three of the four are pulled from issues of Batman he did, and the other story is a two parter from a Wonder Woman run that happens to star a Batman villain. All four stories play with the themes of identity and metamorphoses as the title Fal...

Good sized week, little bit of the usual and some new stuff. #1 JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #21 - I am very hyped about Final Crisis the sketchbook was really cool and I love all the design work so far. #2 JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA #15 - There's supposed to be a big throw down in this issue. So it's time to to see what Alan Scott has up his sleeve. #3 DYNAMO 5 #13 - This might be the most consistently good comic I read I have to turn this comic onto other people. #4 X-MEN DIVIDED WE STAND #2 (OF 2) - A chance to see what Noriko is doing, i'm excited. #5 DC WILDSTORM DREAMWAR #2(OF 6) - Last issue was a bit of, meh. This issue better have some plot developing. #6 BRAVE AND THE BOLD #13 - Batman and Jay Garrick teaming up doesn't light the world on fire for me. #7 MIGHTY AVENGERS #14 - I don't like these skrull covers anymore. I want the cover of a comic to reflect the story inside. #8 COUNTDOWN TO MYSTERY #8(OF 8) - This s...
