Image
Recorded live on July 12th 2018 2:30pm-3:30pm in the Floridian D room Here's some panel footage we captured while entertaining set to our theme song. Hosts:  Stephen  &  Danielle  with Doms,  Blockbusterguy Frank and special guest  @Orobasart 1 of 10 epic panels recorded at Supercon by your humble hosts. We did our best to make this panel a sample of our diversity or nerd-ity, ability to improvise, and showcase our passion. We had a cool random video edited that will eventually get vimeod and put on our website. We would love to get emails and tweets from all the interesting characters we interacted with. Post-Supercon 2018 Daze of Future Past

Image
Good day Universe, 10 panels were conquered.  We had a blast meeting, connecting,  making airhorn mouth noises, entertaining, and Saying Jack Sparrow repeatedly at the DCFU Panel at Florida Supercon 2018 . We have some video, photos, and many podcasts for you in the extremely near future. Let Supercon know you dug us and want us back, and rate us 5 stars on their app and on whatever podcast app or rating system your nerddom holds dear. To brighten your day today, I leave you a memory from our Vunda-past. One of the most fulfilling fucks in Stephen's adult life. The time he played Let Us Fuck! On an episode of Jay and Silent Bob 152. The Rare Moment both me and Kev were equally unshaven! When world's collide. And also for you! A sampling of things to come hot off Supercon sizzle we snagged an advance screening of the Good Exorcist . Another film made for 7,000 under tremendous adversity but it seems with great skill and style by the demonically gifted  J...

The Hate U Give OFFICIAL TRAILER

Image
Anyone who knows me probably knows that I've been trying to tell literally anyone who will listen about the sheer brilliance of Angie Thomas's award-winning 2017 young adult novel "The Hate U Give" about a young black girl who is the only witness to the shooting of her lifelong best friend--who is unarmed--by the police and the whirlwind of events that follows. I have never read a book or really consumed any piece of art that so deftly and uncompromisingly runs the gauntlet of all that encompasses the experience of being black in America. From mass incarceration to an uncle who is police officer to "passing" at a predominantly white private high school to having a white boyfriend who evolves from reluctant ally to willing accomplice and another white best friend who falls off because "you talk about race too much" to absent fathers in jail to present fathers doing their best despite a checkered past to protests turned riots to being pressured ...

Happy 25th and 20th Anniversary "Parable of the Sower" and "Parable of the Talents" by Octavia E. Butler (and Happy 71st Birthday Octavia!)

Image
(c) Patti Perret/The Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens Today, in celebration of Octavia E. Butler's birthday, I would like to talk about Earthseed. 2018 marks the 25th and 20th anniversary, respectively, of Octavia E. Butler's landmark duology, Parable of the Sower (1993) and Parable of the Talents (1998) and not a moment too soon. The Earthseed Cycle, named for the fictional (but all too real) religion that forms the core of the story, is perhaps the most relevant work of fiction to the social and political landscape of 2018. The dystopian future that Butler extrapolates here is so realistic as to almost feel prophetic. At the very least, the Earthseed Cycle, set almost entirely between the years 2024 and 2035, is a cautionary tale of a future that does not seem very far off from being realized--indeed, in many ways, it feels a little too close for comfort. Which is even more staggering when you consider the words of best-selling, award-winning au...
