Here's a poem I composed a few year ago about today's birthday boy my favorite actor Kurt Russell.

Today is a special day. I've been working on a movie script for 8 years and today I finally finished a rough first draft of it. The script is called Wasted Youth.  It is an independent movie about four friends on a night of adventure in Miami. It's a millennial epic of minute proportions and a version of it is actually done. It's way too long. So now the hard work comes editing and making it good. Their is one song that encapsulates the movie for me, that will probably be the biggest hurdle in getting this movie completed. That song is by one of my favorite artists Meatloaf. I've been trying to write this film since 2006. I've done a ton of brainstorming in that time. I've even started writing it like this before. I have 67 pages of it. Some of the 67 I still like and still works. So I started combining it with the three scenes I've written since that last post. Now I have the first eleven pages of my script written towards a first draft. Today I will take an hour and put it toward the script. I'm sharing with you a pic of my brainstorming a Wasted Youth logo.

I love fiction. I love comics. I love movies. I have always been inspired by directors that write and direct their own film. Directors like Robert Rodriguez, Kevin Smith , and Quentin Tarantino among many others. I have always aspired to do it myself. To be like those guys in the 90's and write and direct my own way into a Hollywood career. I don;t know if a Hollywood career is what I want. I'd love to stay indie as long as I can pull off the types of movies I want to make. I definitely have a couple of action film trilogies that would be my perfect dream Hollywood fodder. But I'm getting way ahead of myself. As I often do. In 2005 I wrote a very "bad" script for an Idea I had called Zombie-Boy. I rushed through the screenwriting and was unhappy with my script when reading it now in hindsight. I've lost most of the footage. The only ghost of it's existence is this video her which was a thank you. To the many people who helped make it possible. ...

So Nick tagged me . Luckily some of these questions I was going to post about anyway. 1) What was the first comic you remember reading? I fully realize how lame this sounds. Des pite my brothers having a huge comic collection, this is the first one I remember owning and trying to read. I couldn't figure out how to read the panels at the tender age of 5, so I don't remeber much of the story and don't really care.  2) What was the first comic that made you realize that you might be in this for the long haul? I might take some flack for this but it was acutually New Avenegrs. I got into comics around May of 2004. My comics budget was very tight and my cousin had also been buying comics. He read more marvel and I read DC. So i'd borrow his copies of New Avengers. Around issue 8 he quit buying comics and I inherited his New Avnegers collection and realized I didn't want to stop reading the book. So it made me think I might be into this for a whil...

I'm back. Sorry I've been out of the fray for a while. I'm here now and that is what counts. I will now finally get to my overly hyped Young X-men review. I want to review this series in a semi-different way. I want to rate it head to head against the book it more or less sprung out of, New X-men. New X-men is a special comic for me, I intend to talk about this more in depth in the future, but New X-men got me into buying comics weekly and creating an actual pull list. For that it obviously has a special place in my heart. As of right now Young X-men doesn't hold that same high esteem, and is basically just a book I'm picking up(I don't expect to be top of the read pile material). New X-men #1 First off the cover is simply okay. I'm a fan of #1 covers, with like giant ones on it and really dynamic posing. I was planning on reviewing Young X-men and I promise I'll do that soon. However, at the moment I feel the need to square off against members of Merry Marvel Marching Society. Over at Pulp Secret  I've gotten guff for feeling that DC does superior cross over work and reacting to Brian Micheal Bendis's interview in the aforementioned link, please read and watch the vid first. First of all as far as Bendis and the interview go, it really pisses me off. I like Bendis's writing, I've enjoyed almost every issue of New Avengers and I enjoy the way he treats Luke Cage. On the other hand, every time I see him speak publicly he comes across to me like the most pompous self righteous ass. Claiming that he doesn't do retcons is ridiculous. Secret Invasion looks like a pure retcon machine. Hank Pym as a skrull seems like the perfect avenue to shed his wife beating past and give him a chance to be heroic once again. For those of you that missed part 1 . When I read comics, I like to distinguish characters voices. Some character's voices, are played by actors whose voices I've simply heard to much of. For example, although it's not a terribly inspired choice Ian Mckellen is the voice of Magneto in my comics. Hundreds of hours of watching the Lord of the Rings have given me a pretty good Ian Mckellen impresion. So I'm proud to say he not only plays Magneto but Sir Reginald Hargreeves AKA: The Monocle(from the Umbrella Academy ), The Wizard Mordru, and The Wizard Shazam(Sorry but he is always going to sound like a wizard to me). Similarly, thousands of hours of watching Star Trek have given me a superb Patrick Stewart impression. Which I use often for Captain Picard and Professor X, of course. Rich  said this in his last blog post.  " Booster Gold #7  - No real surprises this time round but nicely crafted stuff with lots of nods to continuity - although I do wonder if that very thing doesn't make it a bit of a niche book that basically appeals only to fanboys (and girls). " Rokk  also felt that Booster Gold #5 wasn't accessible to new readers.  Which makes me wonder do you think Booster Gold is a niche book that only appeals to fanboys ?  I would argue, no. I feel quite the opposite. I think Booster Gold, has been a book that can introduce new readers to DC history. Johns and Katz are skilled in giving exposition and have all the tools necessary to explain it to the readers with out it feeling forced. They have often teamed up Booster with people not in the know of that is going on Jaime Reyes, Jonah Hex, and Dan Garrett to cite a few. They also have Skeets who usually explains everything to Booster anyway...

Ooh yeah, this read pile I found the opportunity to put up two pictures of Ravager...I know your jealous. #1 BLUE BEETLE #25 - This is the best comic ever and the JLI is going to be here. Nerdgasms are sure to fill the blogosphere. #2 TEEN TITANS #57 - Since my stack sucked last week I start rereading Teen Titans since one year later. It is better than I remember it. Especially the bits with Ravager who I have developed a nerd crush on. So I am very hyped about this Ravager focused issue. I got the first three Volumes of Y: The Last Man yesterday afternoon. I finished them at midnight. Holy crap is it good. I just ordered volumes 4-7 from amazon. Unfortunately I have to wait till mnday to read them. I am so glad I picked this book up. It is so well handled and all the dialogue is perfect. I enjoy this book at its base level to hear Yorick talk which is really impressive for a comic book. I think it was an episode of the stack that some one asked what would put reading comicbooks in the main stream, and someone responded let Oprah put a comic in her book club pick. Well this is the comic to hand to Oprah. Is Ex-Machina this good? If it is I'm going to have to pick it up when I finish reading Y. I've been reading abot New Line trying turn it into a movie and I really like Shia Lebeouf as Yorick but cinema is really the wrong medium for this. I'd much rather see this as an HBO series.

When I first entered the world of comic books, I never thought that I would have an alleigance for one company more than another. As time progressed though, I noticed a shift in my pull list. My affiliation became quite clear. I'm a DC guy. Don't get me wrong I read Marvel . I love Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Gambit. However when it comes to overall universe DC wins. Why DC? Escapism. DC recently is more escapist. In the Marvel Universe, I have to worry about politics. The moral and ethical implications of the superhuman registration act . Over at the Distiguished Competition my biggest worry is whether an alien invasion of power ring toting facists is going to conquer the universe and kill Hal Jordan.   No more 90's . I was not buying comics in the 90's, but I feel I've read enough about it to realize thats prabably a great thing.  Marvel to me feels like it's still bogged down in the montony of 90's comics. I almost missed one of the most fun comics I have ever read. Since september I have been seeing this mini-series called The Umbrella Academy come out. I don't know why, but in my brain I kept on passing over the book, never giving it a second glance. I assumed it had something to do with Resident Evil and their Umbrella Corporation . Boy was I wrong. I was watching old videos of Comic Book Club when their mention of The Umbrella Academy finally got my attention. Partly, because they said that their was a hero whose super power was that what ever rumor she said became a reality, and partly because they mentioned Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance. I have no shame in admitting my emoness and saying that I am a huge My Chemical Romance fan. I have been listening to the band since 2003.
